Canadian clarinetist Minghao Kelvin Liu is a multifaceted musician whose passion and talent extend across various domains of the musical landscape. Currently pursuing his master's degree at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music under the tutelage of Stephen Williamson and Todd Levy.Noteworthy engagements include his participation in Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Contemporary Music Ensemble.
Having graduated with distinction from Western University's Bachelor of Music program. At Western, Minghao honed his skills under the guidance of esteemed music directors such as Dr. Colleen Richardson and Mr. Simone Luti. His dedication to musical excellence has seen him grace prestigious stages, including appearances as the principal clarinetist with the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. Noteworthy engagements include his participation in the opera productions of Puccini's "Suor Angelica" and "Gianni Schicchi,"
Minghao's commitment to chamber music has been equally remarkable, with collaborative performances spanning an array of ensembles and genres. Noteworthy performance of Mozart's Kegelstatt Trio with the esteemed Ensemble Made In Canada.
In 2023, Minghao and pianist Melody Sham joined forces to co-found the Golden Ears Chamberfest, a testament to their shared commitment to advancing chamber music in British Columbia while fostering meaningful community engagement. In the summer of 2023, Minghao and the Alouette Ensemble embarked on a tour of British Columbia, gracing stages in North Vancouver, White Rock, and North Surrey. These performances not only showcased their exceptional musical talent but also served as platforms for philanthropy, as they partnered with esteemed local charities including the White Rock Baptist Church, Highland United Church, and Autism Support Network to raise funds in support of vital community services.
Beyond his prowess as a performer, Minghao is deeply invested in fostering musical engagement within his community. His involvement with the non-profit organizations such as ClarinetCanada and the Dancing Sky Alliance Association underscores his dedication to promoting clarinet performance and interdisciplinary artistic collaborations. As a Research Assistant with ClarinetCanada, Minghao contributes to the organization's mission of supporting clarinetists of all levels, while his role as a Board Member of the Dancing Sky Alliance Association reflects his commitment to presenting elevated performances of music and dance to wider audiences.

Minghao's vision for inclusive music education is exemplified through his founding of MTS Music Theory Studio, an online platform offering courses in music theory, composition, history, and appreciation. Through innovative teaching methods and original content creation, Minghao seeks to democratize access to music education and cultivate a deeper appreciation for the arts among learners of all backgrounds. Minghao composed many original stories while incorporating and highlighting the use of popular classical orchestral excerpts as the background music,
which MTS plans to present at the local BC community centres, libraries, and schools in 2024.
His journey as a musician has been shaped by the guidance of mentors such as Stephen Williamson, Jeanette Jonquil, Jana Starling, Connie Gitlin, and Marie Johnson, whose expertise and mentorship have been instrumental in his artistic development.
